1 in 3 Doctors Plans to Quit Within 10 Years

Blaming the hassles of healthcare reform and low compensation, 34% of physicians stated they plan to leave the practice of medicine during the next decade, in line with a new national survey.

The survey, that was conducted online of over 2,200 physicians by Jackson Healthcare, a staffing Atlanta-based healthcare recruiter, in addition found that approximately 16% of the survey respondents said they will, or are strongly contemplating leaving medicine, retiring or working part-time in 2012.

Research market manager, Sheri Sorrell, for Jackson Healthcare, states many of the essays from the physicians responding were very emotional and lengthy, notably as they expressed their feedback to the significant changes in medicine that will be caused by market demands and healthcare reform.
