Respiratory Therapist Schools in New York
Choosing a college is fun and exciting as you embark on your journey to be a respiratory therapist in New York. Your school must be accredited by The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
To be a respiratory therapist you have to be a caring, sensitive and confident individual. You work independently through out the hospital interacting and communicating with other healthcare professionals to coordinate the care of your patients. Being a respiratory therapist requires much responsibility and the education you receive prepares you for this role.
To be licensed you must have either an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Science/Respiratory Care. A two-year Associate’s degree allows you to be in work force sooner but a Bachelor’s degree gives the opportunity for future growth in a management capacity. Having your degree allows you to take state board examinations after graduation to become a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
Respiratory therapy is a secure and growing healthcare field. The Bureau of Labor and Statistics states that a 28% employment increase is expected from 2010 through 2020 due to the aging of the baby boomer generation. As you can see you’ve made a wise choice to pursue a degree in respiratory therapy!
