To be a respiratory therapist you have to be confident, but caring and sensitive. A respiratory therapist has to practice strict ethical behavior since you have much independence working throughout the hospital setting. Your education prepares you for the your role that requires much responsibility.

To be licensed in Alabama, you must have either an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Science/Respiratory Care. A two-year Associate’s degree allows you to be in work force sooner, earning a paycheck, but a Bachelor’s degree gives the opportunity for future growth in a management capacity. After graduation you will be qualified to sit and take the state board examination to be a certified respiratory therapist (CRT). You then may take another state examination to become a registered respiratory therapist (RRT).

Respiratory therapy is a secure and growing profession. The Bureau of Labor and Statistics states that a 28% employment increase is expected from 2010 through 2020 due to the aging of the baby boomer generation.
